"Abigail"

GOLDEN RETRIEVER WORLD magazine

This essay describes the relationship between humans and their loving companions, in particular, my relationship with my first golden retriever.  She learned about living in human society from me, but I learned about nature and the natural world from her.  It was a bond that will live on forever.

About Me

I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and was exposed to Broadway, classical music, and art from a very young age, and I was a classically trained ballet dancer.  Early on, I knew that I loved the written word, and I also knew that I had to write. It wasn't merely a choice. I've been writing ever since.

I majored in English, (both literature and writing), and I have been a teacher of these disciplines at New York City high schools and colleges, where I attempted to create in my students, the same passion about the written word that lies within me.

I was the food critic for the BROOKLYN GRAPHIC, and my column was called "The Graphic Gourmet".  I enjoyed this job very much, and was treated to some of the best food in Brooklyn's finest restaurants.  When I left the GRAPHIC, I went on to write for the newspaper, THE TENANT'S VOICE, where I went out into the field to investigate tenant/landlord issues.

From there, I began freelance writing, including essays, poems, and short stories, several of which have won prizes and/or have been published in various literary journals and magazines.

My first novel was published in December, 2021.  A book of my poetry was also published around the same time.

In February, 2022, I was notified by the literary magazine THE MIDNIGHT OIL, that I was the grand prize winner in their 2021 short story contest for my short story entitled "The Unmooring".  I am very excited about this and am looking forward to its publication date (TBA).

I currently reside in New Jersey with my family, but I will always be a New Yorker at heart.
